Creating Community in the French Classroom

Hi there!  The beginning of the school year is an exciting time but for some students it's filled with anxiety and fear.  As teachers, we always work at making our students feel as comfortable as possible so that they will willingly answer questions when called upon and participate in the conversations and lessons of the day.

As French educators this is particularly important so that our students will "risk" making errors while using the French language that they have in their skill set. So, how do we make our students feel comfortable?  Interactive activities in the class really help with this.

It can start with large group activities or even by working in pairs. Activities like the "zipper" talked about in a previous blog post of mine is ideal for this. (see May 30, 2023)  I have also found task cards to be great ways to help "break the ice" with my students.  Here are some resources that I have put together that might be just the right thing to use in your classroom!  All of them focus on listening and speaking skills!

1.  Ice breaker task cards

2.  la révision task cards

3.  la révision task cards #2

4.  un jeu de dominos

5.  People bingo/LOTO

6.  People LOTO - verb tenses version
